The International Rugby Board (IRB) announced New Zealand was granted the rights to host Rugby World Cup 2011 on 17 November 2005 in Dublin.

The bid submitted by New Zealand was built around the theme that the Tournament would be hosted in New Zealand’s “Stadium of Four Million” and that it would be an “ALL RUGBY” experience for all involved.

New Zealand is the spiritual home of Rugby and therefore provides a fantastic location to host Rugby World Cup 2011 – which promises to be the best Tournament yet.

After being host to the first Rugby World Cup Final in 1987 (Eden Park Stadium, Auckland), Rugby World Cup 2011 will be the first time a Tournament returns to the same host nation and venue for a second Rugby World Cup Final.
